I wandered the mountains looking to befriend the night,
hearing noises, but it was merely my own fright.
The dark grew slim and my might grew tall,
It all went away with morning’s soft light so small,
I no longer needed to escape and live in fright,
Or live in dread of a forever night,
for the sounds in my head were never near at all,
just bears in the woods, in the darkness of night.
But then the noises became voices, and I was no longer out of sight,
carrying shame and an outward mind,
the walls grew in, and the dark loomed large,
I waited for love or a family member, but nothing to hear.
I hid in the lion’s den where my doubt grew fear,
and my will became so small, just little tears at all.
The game was easy, I understood it clear,
all I had to do was just go and disappear.
Invisible as the night, I got lost in the dark,
now we’re no longer friends, just a bit fallen apart.
But as the unconscious mind looms again in my distance,
how could I approach it without assistance?
The dark wasn’t a place to fear or hide,
but I was a lion in natural pride.
But now as I sit in this pool so dark,
I’m swimming and can no longer be friends with noises that loom large,
it feels as though the night won fear after all.
